Telecom Ministry grants ISP license to state-run TACTV
October 05, 2015
The Telecom Ministry has issued internet service provider (ISP) license to the Tamil Nadu government for providing broadband and internet services.
The license has been given to state-run operator Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable Television (TACTV) Limited. The local cable operators interested in providing the service will have to register through the TACTV website.
Earlier in September 2015, the government of Tamil Nadu had announced a broadband project to connect all the 12,524 village panchayats in the state through optical fibre. The move came after the central government accepted the Tamil Nadu government's proposal to implement the BharatNet project through the state government.
